Wu Yue Tian album review in 8days
By Charlie Young
Their two year hiatus built up so much pent-up creative energy in Mayday that they're currently producing new material at the same rate as two bit boy bands who constantly fear being out of sight, out of mind of their attention-fedicit teenage fans. This is the key difference: God's Children Can Dance, Mayday's second album in a year in addition to an original film score for Love of May, has more ideas, more moments of genuine brillance than all of Taiwan's other bands put together for the last couple of years.
So you can forgive their cheek in comparing themselves to the Beatles in an inside photo tht references John Lennon and company's landmark Abbey Road Album. The first four songs - 'Monkey King', 'Stubborn', 'Didn't Hear', and 'Rubbish Truck'- are arguably the best here, combining the musical virtuosity of Time Machine and the exuberance of Viva Love, their second and still the best album.
There's so much going on in each song that it takes serveral listens to fully appreciate how tight, how complex Mayday have become: Ashin's lyrics are thought-provoking and emotional without being needlessly obscure or sappy; Yan Ming's drumming is rock solid and funky; and Masa's fluid melodic basslines are a loverly foil to the electric guitar drive provided by Stone and Monster.
Elsewhere, the lighter-in0the-air ballad 'Let me take care of you', the sweetly melancholic 'Please Come Back', and the sublime, syncopated 'Good Night, Earthling', would easily make any Best of 2004 Chinese pop complilation.
rating: ***** (5 stars)
I hardly see Charlie Young give 5 stars to any albums . Seriously, you know a good album when u hear one. I'll say it again, I'm mightily pleased with this album. Top of my list for this year.
This album is like good wine, the longer u listen to it, the better it gets. And the lyrics... I never use to bother about mandarin lyrics since i dont really understand a whole lot but Ashin really writes fab stuffs tht i yearn to find out and understand.

Just came back from the free wuyuetian 'BIAO GE' concert at PS!
walaowalaowalao!!!! cant even describe my feelings. Nothing beats hearing them LIVE! they sound so tight together and richard stone was unbelievable!! He's really my geetar god!!!
They played many songs and many hokkien numbers which was so fucking rare!!!
After tht came the autograph thingy. yeah ... sounds very teeny bopper-ish but fuck... once in a life time. I figured i cant see my Manic street preachers, so wuyuetian is a must!!!
I spoke to richard stone TWICE cos i was a sucker and i bought like 2 copies of cd. One is their latest album, the other is the complete DVD set. hehehe!!!!
The first time went like this:
Me: SHI TOU! YOU RAWK!!!!
shitou: (i dunno wht he said but he said somethings and he didnt say it to the rest of the fans!!)
2nd time:
ME: Shi tou, ni de ying wen ming jiao 'RICHARD' ma?
shitou: dui ah! (then i forgot the rest cos i was so excited)
Anyway, they were really fanfuckingtastic LIVE! didnt expect them to be so tight and smooth. WOOHOOO!!!!
i love wuyuetian!!
